Bushfire Advice AVOID THE AREA - CANNING STOCK ROUTE IN PARTS OF GIBSON DESERT NORTH

Bushfire Advice - AVOID THE AREA - CANNING STOCK ROUTE in parts of GIBSON DESERT NORTH

A Bushfire Advice is in place for people intending to travel on Canning Stock Route, south of Kunawarritji between Well 32 and Well 24 in parts of GIBSON DESERT NORTH in the SHIRE OF EAST PILBARA.

  • Be aware there are multiple bushfires burning in the area.

  • There is a lot of smoke in the area.

WHAT TO DO

  • Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
  • If possible, delay any plans to travel on this section of Canning Stock Route.
  • Read through your bushfire plan and decide what you will do if the situation gets worse. You can make a plan by visiting My Bushfire Plan.
  • Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
  • If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222.
If driving
  • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
  • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.

Bushfire Advice - THREAT IS REDUCED - south western parts of GIBSON DESERT NORTH

A Bushfire Advice is in place for people near Canning Stock Route, in the vicinity of Well 27, south of Kunawarritji in south western parts of GIBSON DESERT NORTH in the SHIRE OF EAST PILBARA.

  • The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire no longer poses a risk to this area.

WHAT TO DO

  • The threat of the fire has reduced however you should take care in the area.
  • Stay alert for potential dangers such as smoke and fallen trees and power poles.
  • Be aware of current weather conditions, which may cause new fires to start and spread quickly in the area.

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR

  • There are currently multiple bushfires burning on both sides of Canning Stock Route.

  • The fires are not contained or controlled.

ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS

Roads have not been closed. However, parts of Canning Stock Route have been impacted by fire. People should avoid travelling in this area, if possible.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map , calling 138 138  or by contacting your Local Government Authority.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING

  • Firefighters are working closely with local community leaders and pastoralists to manage the impact to the community.

ANIMAL WELFARE

Owners or carers of livestock, pets and companion animals should activate their own animal welfare plan. During a bushfire take advice from Local Government Authorities to protect the lives of your animals while keeping yourself safe.
