Smoke Alert FOR CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PARTS OF DAMPIER PENINSULA IN THE SHIRE OF BROOME



The following alert has been issued by
the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

Please note the smoke is expected to clear over the next day.

Smoke Alert for central and northern parts of DAMPIER PENINSULA in the SHIRE OF BROOME

  • A Smoke Alert has been issued for people travelling along Broome-Cape Leveque Road between Beagle Bay and Lombadina communities and surrounding areas in DAMPIER PENINSULA in the SHIRE OF BROOME.
  • The smoke is the result of mitigation burning being carried out by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) in the area.
  • The smoke is expected to clear over the next day.
WHAT TO DO

  • Shut doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
  • If driving through the area, turn on headlights and drive slowly. If you cannot see clearly, pull over to the left, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
  • People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
  • If affected by smoke contact your doctor or call 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422 ).
  • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.

ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS

Roads have not been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map , calling 138 138  or by contacting your Local Government Authority.

KEEP UP TO DATE

During a power outage, your home phone, computer or other electronic devices connected to the NBN will not work. Include a battery powered radio in your emergency kit.
